Hong Kong´s oldest Ballet School was founded in 1948 and to this day the school occupies the same studio in the historic Helena May Building at 35 Garden Road, Hong Kong. In 1970, the London School of Ballet became the Kowloon branch of the school.

The Principal, Mrs. Joan Camp bell, is a founding member of the Hong Kong Ballet Group and students of the school participate in the groups´s performances. Some of Hong Kong´s leading ballet schools are today directed by former pupils of the Carol Bateman School of Dancing. The teachers are qualified in the Royal Academy of Dance method of ballet and the teachers of National Dance are all ISTD qualified.

All classes have piano accompaniment. There is a ´watching week¨ each term when parents are invited to watch a class to follow their child´s progress. The school holds an annual performance in one of the local theaters, giving students a chance to gain stage experience and show the skills they have learned.

All proceeds of these events go to charity.
